[MV] 24 Volt System

Oh yeah, one other point I meant to make. Aircraft (always?) has been 24
Volt. This goes right back to the point of simple engineering again, you
don't want the heavy wiring harness', heavy alternator/generators, starters.
Voltage stamina is also a consideration when you're "up there"! Perhaps
this is where the 24 Volt thing started in the first place and also radio
equipment would be compatable. The bottom line is: higher voltage-smaller
wiring harness'. This would also be a cheaper cost consideration.
(smaller, higher quality switches etc.) I'm sure that aircraft engineers
didn't do this because they wanted an "odd" system; It is a very
functional/important system that is more reliable than a 12 Volt system.
Higher current is also more likely to start a fire. (heat generated in
wiring/breakdown of insulation/very important!) Just more input to explain
the 24V system. Julian Burke
