The voltage drop is alos a big factor in 6 volt vehicles today. You cannot
find (not NOS) battery cables locally that are designed to carry that much
current. 12 volts, needing 1/2 the current dictates that present day cables
only need to carry that much current. This is one reason that some people
have problems with 6v systems; battery cables that cannot carry that much
current. They get warm/hot. Me, I use 12v and they start like it is summer
time even at 20 below!
I have always wondered why the cost consious car makers have not gone to 24v
or even 48v to reduce the size of the wire again and save $$. You also have
the added advantage of being able to get more sound power (watts) from an
amplifier w/o needing an inverter.
