[MV] M-38 engine marked RMC

Thanks all who responded to my query on Identifying my engine block. All
seemed to indicate it would be marked "MC xxxxx" with the serial number.
Mine is clearly marked "RMC115415". Is the R normal or does it indicate
something else?

It is obvious this engine was out of the vehicle and painted red. Could R
mean replacment? The letter was stamped at the same time as the rest of the
numbers and is the same font and neatly lined up.
