First, while I have seen air line connections on the front of 5 and ten ton
trucks, I have never seen them on deuces, but I suppose there is a first time
for everything.
Second, with the exception of when using a wrecker, the military idea of
towing per the manuals is to have a driver in both vehicles. That being the
case, I suspect the objective of the front glad hands is to supply air to the
towed vehicle, whose engine is presumably dead, while the driver in the
second vehicle can activate the brakes in a normal fashion.
When I get home in a few days I will have to crawl under one and see if the
air lines are plumbed in such a way that the towed vehicles brakes would be
activated by the towing vehicle brake application.
