That is why
I haven't joined the group. For any member such as yourself to recommend to
anybody who is as enthusiastic as myself "by the way, you probably shouldn't
attend any MVPA events either" makes me wonder how exactly (since I am not a
member) the MVPA really plans to further the hobby I so enjoy.
That although you are not a member, the club should be concerned with
furthering your hobby.....
>And
this has been a chronic problem with the MVPA- I don't see it being quickly
fixed, and therefore have not joined its ranks."
Perhaps you expect the organization to improve itself, per your suggestions,
and then you will consider joining?
Perhaps this is the case for you and some people you know....
>most people in the US only wanted Supply Line and had to
be members to get it, and just tolerated the political horse shit so they
had some forum to trade their items."
But for me and everyone I have talked to that is a MVPA, we joined because we
were interested in Military Vehicles, and wanted to associate with people of
a similar interest.....
>Well, now Military Vehicles is out
there, with a bigger following than the MVPA. I wonder why?
Actually, it has a bigger following now than it did under Dennis Spence's
ownership too. Dennis was dividing his time between the mag and Portrayal
Press, and Dave is concentrating on mag now, he has experience, knows what he
is doing, AND ITS A GREAT MAG.
>They aren't. They think they are the
only game in town, expect lowly collectors like me to see them as such and
just join because they are it. "
NO, actually I think they'd want people to join because they are interested
in MV's and want to enjoy the fellowship of other enthusiasts.
>If I spend $50.00 for the BMW
Collector's Club of America, I get a lot more service than I get from the
MVPA."
Since you say you've never joined MVPA, how are you in a position to judge
the level of service you get? Just curious.
> And again, despite what I say here about the MVPA, I really hope that
they get their act together, become more of an advocacy group, and survive
to help this hobby.
Without your membership, and hence your vote, how do you see these changes
you suggest AND HAVE MERIT coming about??? But with problems like this, I
don't see it happening.
> with an undercurrent of elitist thought like you
espoused by un-inviting this mailing list to MVPA events if they were not
members, I think the future is grim.
Actually, what I said was "If you wish to join another group, great, got no
problem with that, don't want to join MVPA, too bad, but don't complain how
it is run, and by the way, you probably shouldn't attend any MVPA events
either, since you are not helping the organization in any way."
This is no more "elitist" than McDonald's expecting me to pay for the
hamburger I eat. That is if someone CHOOSES not to join, as you have and are
certainly free to do, how can they in good conscience take part in trail
rides, vehicle displays etc, put on by the MVPA? And particlularly, how can
anyone complain about the way it is run, if they have no vested interest in
the club, and are not voting to determine how it is run?
Yes, I would like to see the MVPA become a strong advocacy group like NRA,
EAA, but it won't happen without broader backing by the MV collector
community. It is shame for hundreds of vehicles to be destroyed, and for more
to be "banned." It will take a lot of strong lobbying to change either of
these I fear. Plus there are those who advocate taking old vehicles off the
road just because they are old, this needs to be addressed. To do this
requires an organization speaking in one loud voice. All organizations must
change in order to grow and survive, but the only people who can make it
change are those who vote. And that requires membership.
