Normal........

This used to worry me on the DUKW, when you could look down at night and
see the manifold glow reflected in the bottom of the hull, but apparently
they all do this.

It does mean that you should warm it up before operation, and let it cool
for a couple of minutes at tickover before switching it off after work, to
avoid manifold cracking. Having a spare manifold block and gasket set
would be a good thing too - at least you can get to the studs in a CCKW to
change them. On the other hand there might be a crack around #4 that is
causing a specific glow but you cant really fix them, run it till it comes
apart and then fit another.

By the way some of your helmets ( they were yours, wern't they?) ended up
in Scotland after filming SPR, seems like they were flung in with a deal
on some of the landing craft.
