Re: [MV] Fuel pump conversion for multi-fuel?

Henry,
The fuel system on a multifuel deuce is much different from that on a Jeep.
On the deuce there is an electric supply pipe in the fuel tank that supplies
fuel to the injector pump which is gear driven off the engine.
If the injector pump itself fails, the engine won't run period, as this
device performs all the funtions similar to the ones normally associated with
distributer AND carburetor on a spark ignition engine.
Within the injection pump is a supply pump, if it fails, the truck can be
started with starting fluid, and 95% of the time it will continue to run.
If the in-tank fuel pump fails while the engine is running, you'll probably
not know it until you try to start the truck again. If the in tank pump
doesn't run, it may be difficult to restart the truck. The usual cause of in
tank pump failure is a blown fuse (only FUSE, not circuit breaker I've seen
on one of these trucks), which is inside of electrical junction box on top of
fuel tank. Excessive corrosion in tank can introduce trash to pump, leading
to high amp draw and blown fuses or pump motor simply stopping.
Hope this helps,
David Doyle
