The EAA has taken an active role. I am free to import a French surplus
B-17, a UK surplus McDonnell F4 Phantom, or a Chinese surplus MiG-21 and
fly it in the US all due to the efforts of the EAA, but I can't import a
3/4 ton Dodge......
I am aware of numerous WWII Lend-Lease aircraft being returned to the
states due to the EAA's efforts. What effort has the MVPA made? What
successes can they show for their efforts?
>From the August 1999 EAA magazine:
EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) Warbirds of America president
Jack Harrington recently traveled to Washington, DC to meet with the
Bureau of Alchohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) regarding a proposed
military hardware importation ban. The ban includes all ex-military
aircraft. Jack reports that the FAA made an excellent presentation at
the meeting. The FAA presentation showed that the FAA sufficiently
regulates ex-military aircraft and indicated that they felt there is no
need to include ex-military aircraft in any military hardware
importation ban that may be developed.
EAA thanks the FAA for their recognition of our ability to import and
fly Warbird aircraft.
