As I remember markings on tac veh in the Marine Corps - they had the M-38A1
Jeep and the M422 Mighty Mite, they were painted olive drab, the lettering
was usually on the sides of the hood in yellow stick-on letters and
numbers, USMC XXXXXX (ser no). Later, some M-38A1s and their commercial
equiv, the CJ-5, were OD with three lines: "U.S. MARINE CORPS," on top of
'FOR OFFICIAL USE ONLY," on top of XXXXXX (vehicle ser no). When the M151s
came to the Fleet Marine Force, the were painted Marine (spruce) green and
had in simple one inch black painted letters USMC XXXXXX on the sides of
the hood. Unit tactical marks (four digit codes) were on the sides of the
bodies. this remained the same when the vehs went camouflaged.
