[MV] Two important vehicle maintenance questions (and Enough is Enough)

Hi Andy! I agree with you, and have wondered during the year I've been on
the list why so much is posted in the way of replies to all when direct reply
would've been more polite to the rest of us. I'm so tired of reading mail
directed to others yet posted on the bulletin board as if they can't read
their own mail. And yet when a tech question is asked, so often you don't
hear what the answer was. Perhaps the person who asked the question can post
a synopsis of the answer for the rest of us. Also, while the concerns voiced
here are of considerable concern to the majority of the users, this list was
really (according to Arthur) designed to be a bulletinboard and clearinghouse
of MV information directly related to the hobby. The problems with the
Federal Government in general, and with the Clinton Administration in
particular, probably get deleted more than those posting them would realize.
Except for postings about how to make a direct difference by emailing your
congressman about a specific issue, I am not too excited to read a long long
thread about the woes of our great yet myopic and degenerating nation.
Please, don't email me with a ton of drivel telling me how directly related
to the hobby this is, you KNOW what I mean. I know the world is going to
hell in a handbasket, ok? I just prefer a place I can come and just "talk
shop". So do most of us here.
On that note, I have some vehicle related questions:
1 can someone tell me if you can swap 151A1 and A2 wiper arms and blade
assemblies? The A2 seems easy to find, the A1 hard. I have an A1, but don't
really care which blade sweeps the rain off the windshield.
2 regarding the M37 oiling system, does anybody know about the different
springs in the pressure relief valve, and why the oil pickup is shaped the
way it is? I know it floats, but the slots are so small. Well, they were
until I enlarged them :o) when I rebuilt the motor. And while the
mikemotor has been troublefree for 3yrs and a couple thousand miles, the
oilpressure has always been absymally low - 25 hot / cold cruise or idle.
And I always get a bit of metallic sludge in the oilfilter reservoir. I'm
ready to hear the sage advice of others before I yank the dang motor apart.
Perhaps I should try a different oilpump? I used the new one supplied by
Kantor autoparts, but I have an old one here. Or maybe cutting those slots
larger was foolish? Or maybe I should adapt a modern submerged oil pickup
to the engine, it would be extremely simple.
