I own a 1952 3/4 ton Dodge cargo truck. I have had
this truck for a year now. I got it pretty much green,
still has some parts to put back on. I decided to drive
it in The Iowa State Fair Parade Last night. The Parade
started at 6:30pm so I met a friend 12 miles from me and
followed him(in his 1945 cckw) 35 miles to Des Moines. I
guess I should have known better when we left his house
and it was a light rain, did I mention that some items not
yet put on my truck are Canvas top, top bow, and windshield
wipers. I mentioned this to my friend, he said you don't need
wipers on flat window, rain rolls right off (just as a side note, he
was wrong). We ran 10 miles and it started a down pour, lightning
on both sides of me and on my head the old steel pot. I was lucky
to see his truck with non working lights on back. I kept the helmet on
because it was the only thing keeping rain out of my eyes. I also brought
a pair of M1944 goggles (but looking through wet goggles wet windshield
only compounded matters). Finally stopped under a bridge for 15 minutes
to let some heavier stuff pass. But there is a good ending, we made it to
parade at 5:30 and by 6:30 sun was peeking out. We had a high number
and waited till 8:30 before we started. Put the ol truck in low side and
had
no problems. It's funny but you can tell who the veterans are, Don't really
know how, but you just know maybe it was a look or wave. Brought things
back into perspective. Although I enjoy the hobby of collecting and
restoring
it's nice to know your Appreciated.
