True, but I believe this is not so much the cork itself but how efective the
seal is between the ends where it contacts the sump. After assembling the
t/c cover onto the block, I cut the cork flush with a razor blade and
cut a couple of 2mm (~1/16") square slivers the same width as the mating
surface of the cover to block. These I then place so that they lie on
the edge of the gasket. Use a little sealant sparingly (ignore the purists)
on them and do the sump. No leaks...
