Here's an idea that I would like to submit to you:
Because the list is now so big and covers so many different
types of vehicles and periods in the history of "MILITARY"
"VEHICLES", why not use a system of e-mail filtering that would
allow only the messages of relevance to each of us to come to
our mailboxes?
It would be simple to add to the "Re:[MV]" Filter marker another
one such as [WWI], [WWII], [KOR], [NAM], [IRQ] and [SOM] if we
go by
conflicts or it can be by brackets of dates, or any other way
to differentiate periods and/or vehicles. Of course there would
always be other catch-all categories for unclassifiable stuff or
stuff of general interest such as [GEN] or [OTH], as well as
[WPN] and [RAD] for weaponry and radio-comms questions etc... We
should keep it simple, with not too many sub-topics.
This would greatly reduce the traffic on our own mailboxes. I am
pretty sure that all e-mail software nowadays has ways to
accurately filter messages.. . I also know of quite a few people
who un-subscribed from the list because it was just too much for
them to handle for the small scope of their needs. This way we
could select one or several sub-topics of interest to us and
ignore the rest.
Of course, the key to make it work is for all of us to be
consistent with the subject markings. The List Owner would give
us the proper guidance, here.
The point to keep in mind is that it is important to keep the
list big, for the benefit of all, because the more people on the
list, the more chances you have to get answers to tough
questions or advice on rare items...
I'll toss this in the arena, let's hear what you think...
