I you use your Mil-Veh as a daily driver, I think you should go
for the hardened valve seat inserts.... It's called peace of
mind...
I know there could be a big debate on Leaded vs Unleaded, with
some people saying that before a certain date in the fifties,
all gas was unleaded...that lead was just an octane booster
etc...etc... and some people individually proving to you that
they ran gazillion miles with a flathead engine fed exclusively
unleaded gas without a hiccup..
I dunno... I'd say, play it safe, and put hardened inserts in...
I thought about doing it for my bikes too, but in the case of
small engines, mixing lead additives to unleaded gas is not such
a big expensive deal...
I'd love to see other opinions on this... especially on the
prognosis on engine life expectancy if it is run exclusively and
daily with unleaded fuel.
