Well now, as the person who made the 'new' Pioneer compass brackets for
the DUKW (don't e-mail folks, they are all long since sold)

Commercially companies go by the 90% rule, which is that 90% of the people
will pay 90% of the price for something that is 90% correct, though I've
bought some reproduction material that was diabolical as regards quality.

The technique I used on the compass bracket was to make as good a copy as
I could, right down to the part numbers cast on and stamped in, but in
such a way as I could always identify it in case someone passed it off as
the real thing. So in your position I'd go for the 100% copy (always
nicer) and then stamp a big 'R' on it somewhere obvious. I believe this
technique is a legal requirement in the US on reprinted manulas and the
like anyway, and as long as you were stamping the R no-one could haggle
too much.
