The failure to edit and delete redundant quotations is one of the main
CAUSES of the server problems Arthur has just told you about. There is
a large blowout of traffic Kb due to the laziness of some people who
can't be bothered editing down messages to which they are replying.
The 2 line snip at the start of this email is an indication of all that
is required. It came from one of tonights (Australian time) emails and I
counted a total of 75 lines of old message, at that, I was generous and
didn't count lines with just quote arrows. Had I done so it would have
run in to the high 90's; and for what?
The author of this latest email put a ONE LINE COMMENT at the bottom.
Is it any wonder Arthur's server is overloading?
READ the rider on the bottom of Arthur's messages, he says:
"Please do NOT quote my whole message back to me when replying".
That does go for normal list traffic aswell! Nor do we need to have ad
nauseum discussions on this topic, just do it: 95% of the list members
already do.
If you don't like what I say, email me about it, but don't overload the
list by CC'ing it to the list .
Regards
Doug
