As long as we're on the subject, what will be involved in registering
an M35-series truck in California, straight from a DRMO sale? The
on-line information that I could find on the CA DMV web site didn't
seem too helpful, because it just covered purchase of vehicles from CA
auto dealers and private-party sales of vehicles previously registered
in CA.
Also, the information on the DMV web site implies that I will need a
class B commercial license to drive one of these beasts (3 axles, over
6,000 pounds empty). Is this true? Can I avoid being tested on air
brakes, trailers, and so forth? Does the fact that I have no intention
of using the truck for any commercial purposes change anything? I'm
still learning to drive a stick shift; does anybody have an M135 or
M211 that I can borrow for the drive test? :-)
