Winding the cable with a load on it was a good idea. Anytime you purchase
either a winch with new cable or replace the old cable on your winch you
should wind the cable onto the spool with a slight load in order to make
sure the cable is stretched out completely before it is used in actual field
conditions with a heavy load on the end. Have seen a couple of near misses
and one bad accident due to this while four-wheeling, luckily none of them
involving me or my jeep.
