I am replying to your question regarding specialty fasteners and copying
the group because we have all had situations where the offerings at the
local hardware store just will not do.
In every city of any size there is a bolt and nut store (in Corpus
Christi, TX it is CC Bolt & Screw) which specializes in fasteners
exclusively. Find that store, make your request as accurately and
completely as you can, such as, "I need 100 Square drive, 3 1/2", #8,
Silicon Bronze, wood screws, (bring in one as an example) and, when they
say all they have in stock are 2 1/2" slotted head, #10, stainless
machine screws, do not leave the store mumbling.
Find the most intelligent sales person (MISP) there and ask them to look
in the BIG THICK CATALOGUE OF MANUFACTURERS OVER RUNS, RETURNS AND
OVERSTOCKS which the sales people HATE TO USE but which resides in the
bottom drawer of the oldest salespersons desk AND which YOU NOW KNOW
ABOUT.By talking nicely to the MISP (or threatening, subtly, to talk to
the owner) you will get the fastener you need.It may take him a few days
to find it and two weeks for it to me shipped, but you have time. Accept
no substitutes!
Happy screwing around.
