I recently bought a '45 1 1/2 ton 4x2 Chevrolet dump truck. The truck is
in a very sorry state especially the cab, hood and fenders. I already
got a better cab, hood and fenders
from Jaap Rietveld in Belgium. there are a few things about the truck
that I don't
understand and I hope someone might have an answer on this.
The dataplate says: "General Motors of Canada Limited"
" made in GM Canada"
" model: 1543X1"
"serial: 5154308413"
"engine:T121926" "bodyserial:3405"
"trim:393" "paint:537"
I always thought that all Canadian build trucks were right hand drive,
my truck is
left hand drive, the cab is also left hand drive, and looking at the
paint it seems
that the original paint is a dark green, just like the early
British-(racing)-green-like
paint and certainly not a Canadian brown or U.S. Olive drab. The truck
has the
same colour everywhere so I assume it is in original state. The chassis
has been designed
in a way that it can be easily adopted for right hand drive or left hand
drive. I can't
discover any numbers on the hood because of the rust, I could try the
doors, they
have been repainted in pink!. There is a painted shipping information
sign on
the chassis below the dump body with dimensions and weight etc. on it.
The dump
body and hoist are from "the Heil Co.Milwaukee". Does anybody know if
this truck is original left hand drive and if Canadian manufactured
vehicles were painted (British)
green???
