The hardener was added because of responses from list on
the softness of the paint. The hardener would make a more
durable, harder to scratch surface (This was only my understanding
from the responses I got, could easily be confused).
As hardener is added to the semi gloss 24087 the color will darken.
so an equal amount of flattener was added to bring back to the right
color (a few people responded that they had used hardener in gillispie
and wished the had used flattener). I didn't use thinner either. on the
paint guys recommendation and one list member, I used a Hot weather
reducer (mixture of stuff similar to thinner). Both flattener and hardener
also thinned the paint mixture.
It has been about 15years since I painted anything. and this mixture was
very forgiving. I put it on thick in some areas, even painting outside,
finishing
up in dark with a drop light.
But as I said before I am currently a sheep following the kind advice of
others,
although it made sense to me and the paint guy helped too (he had a mixing
rack
that must hold 100 gallons at once), I don't know if I explained it very
well.
