Hi List;
Update on the MRE heater discussed a couple of weeks ago. The socket the
metal power plug will plug into is the same as the back up light on the
HUMMV( not that that is where you would plug it in ) and I am told will plug
into the under dash light socket. The plug fits a conventional civilian 12
volt backup light socket with the single contact, single filament bayonet
twist lock style lamp. I haven't opened up any taillights yet to check
inside but I think they are mostly 2 contact type for combined brake and
turn with one bulb ( plus who wants to take off a taillight lens and step on
the brakes for 20 minutes to heat a meal !) However if you put a mil male
connector on a civ socket and mount it under the dash you are in business.
Also the same socket can be bought at KMart, Wal mart and auto stores for
those colored marker lights ( look like big pine cones mounted on metal
base ) for about $2. I believe Rick Larsen stencils had a bunch of mil
multi tap sockets when he was in Weare NH and MVP among others could help
you out. The dash sockets Star Electric is selling for dash ( DUH )mount are
real mil and have a screw cover and look really neat.
Also another source for the heaters is Sandy River Surplus in ME., at
(207) 778- 5044. They're getting $39.00 plus s+h.
Bon Apitite'
