Thanks again for all of your advice! I got the truck towed home
yesterday. I may try to start it up today... I never got around to
doing that in the DRMS yard, because the tow truck arrived just before
I was about to pour in some fuel. Although it probably wasn't
necessary, I had the tow truck driver remove and reinstall the rear
driveshaft (he had an impact wrench, and didn't mind doing it). He
towed it with the front wheels off the ground; he said the flat-tow
restriction was probably because the military has a different style of
wrecker which lifts the truck too far. He had the style with a big
hydraulic fork which lifts the truck a few inches by the front axle.
I plan to update my web page, adding more pictures and details of how
I bought the beast from DRMS and got it home, by the end of this
weekend. For now, there's just one picture of the truck, taken on
inspection day at the DRMS yard.
