[MV] Historic vehicle licensing in California

Quite a while back, somebody posted a message stating that a court
case in California determined that a class C driver's license is
adequate for any vehicle registered in CA as a historic vehicle. I
called up both the DMV and the CHP to ask about this. They said that
they never heard of it, and that a class B license would be necessary
to drive my new M109A3. I'll get the class B if I really need to, but
I'd rather avoid the hassle of trying to find somebody else with a
class B nearby who can drive my truck down to the DMV once or twice
for my registration inspection and drive test...
Does anybody out there have any more information (such as a court case
number, etc.) which might help me verify and prove that my class C is
adequate?
Thanks in advance!
