Howdy,
I live about 1 hr from Sweetwater State Park & have had some dealings
with the rangers there in the past. I've already forwarded the email to
a friend of mine who is the Assistant Military Curator at the Atlanta
History Center. I'll report if he finds out anything, otherwise I'll
contact them directly.
Tim, do you remember how close it was to the ruins of the old
Sweetwater Mill? Actually, the rangers there are quite friendly to
living history there & would probably love the publicity of MVs there.
They'd probably even get the local papers to shoot some photos.
BTW, on a MV note, I did a living history there a couple of years
ago. We portrayed the Federal Cavalry who rounded up the mill workers &
sent them north, many never to return again. The public had to walk
about a mile thru the woods to get to the ruins of the mill, so by the
time they got there, we knew they were there to see history & not just to
eat a picnic at the park. Also, they didn't have any problem with all
the Cavalry riding over their existing foot bridges, so I bet they will
not have a problem with larger vehicles on larger bridges.
