This may be a dumb question, but I have got to ask.
I am changing out the thermostat in my 1945 MB, or should I say putting one
in -- the previous owner didn't have one in the jeep. I acquired the
thermostat retainer and thermostat from Turner 4-WD Parts Company. I got
very prompt service and prices were reasonable, but the thermostat looks
different than what is shown in TM 9-803 (figure 46) and also in the
sectioned view (figure 20). The ones in the figures appear to have longer
bellows that sit down farther into the thermostat retainer. The one I got
from Turner has a smaller profile without the extended bellows and looks
more like the conventional thermostats I've seen in most cars.
Question: Is the thermostat with the longer bellows desirable or required?
Was the configuration changed after the manual was published and/or is the
one I got from Turner a good alternate?
Thanks in advance, Herb

Enjoy your day, hopefully in a 1945 (MB) jeep!
