Hi List:
My buddy and I were scouting around today and looked at a nice early
M-38A1 for sale mostly complete and running good at $5500, several
trailers including clamshell shop trailer (M-416?) at $1000 which might
make a nice two man camper for rallys, a 1/4 ton Jeep trailer in pretty
rough shape for $300. Then went to another place and looked over a '53
M-37 and the man was nice enough to take us for a trail ride in his
beautiful and authenticly restored '43 GPW. He also had a restored and
running RARE John Deere (MT) with upright engine.
The reason for the post is that we ended up at a place where the guy
puts together different oddball combinations such as a homemade tractor
with a '35 ford truck rear end, model A Ford front end, Ford 8N rear
wheels and modern Ford Tempo engine. Or picture a '37 Ford truck front
end with a camping trailer blended into the back of the cab or 2 Edsel
car front ends with campers on the back. All pretty much finished and
running and not bad body work. However, in his boneyard, there's a Ford
Script GP Jeep frame and running gears with the original Ford 9N tractor
engine. Body work mostly rusted away, but in the center of the frame,
there's a circular piece of heavy steel about 12" in diameter attached
to both sides by metal bars. The only reason we could see this is that
the floor is completly rusted away, exposing the frame. This piece
would be located in the center and just behind the front seats. Would
this be some sort of gun mount pedestal or is it a part of the original
construction? Never having seen one of these vehicles with the body
off, I have no idea. It looked like factory work, not just something
someone had cobbled in at some point.
Thanks,
Steve
