"The United States expects China's People's Liberation Air Force to field its
F-10 fighter bomber based on (acquired American) Lavi technology in 2003. The
latest unclassified Pentagon assessment of the aircraft states that as a
"fourth generation" fighter, the F-10 will "most likely be armed with
advanced beyond-visual range active radar, air-to-air missiles, and may be
air-refuelable."
"In addition, said the Pentagon, the jet will have a "reduced signature,"
meaning stealth capability, and "will be built in large numbers." Earlier
this week, the Chinese Air Force announced that it was moving from a
defensive posture to an offensive one, predicated on its ability to field
"high-speed jets," which U.S. officials took to mean the F-10."
For those of you in North America wishing to view the niffty F-10's and other
interesting nuclear capabable aircraft, but are unable to travel to China,
the former U.S. airbase in Panama will likely be hosting them soon. East
coast travellers may be able to view them in Cuba about the same time. I'm
sure the present U.S. travel restrictions will be more accomodating by then
too.
It just keeps getting better and better doesn't it?
