I parked the Ferret at a local reserve Artillery unit as I was going to
get shots of them firing the 21 gun salute with there 105 mm howitzers
for the national ceremony. I got a lot of real great compliments about
it, and a lot of intelligent questions. The jumped into a buddy's car to
go to the Hill for the firing, got some nice shots of the guns, flames
out of the barrels etc. After a quick lunch it was back to collect the
Ferret and of to the Parade.
We arrived on time and turned onto the street where the form up was
starting, the look on the motorcycle cops faces when I swung around the
corner was priceless. So was the look on the veterans faces, they loved
it. In quick form I got into my place, front of the parade, and we
boosted up a Korean vet into the Turret, He had been a sherman driver in
the conflict. He was beaming!!! I love that.
I was asked by the Sgt Major and the cops if I was going to have any
difficulty going so slow, I said no probs, I have a hand throttle!!!!
The cops had more trouble staying upright!
Anyway, off we went , about 1 1/2 ks through the streets to the
Cenotaph. The ceremony went of and the we returned to the Legion.
Unfortunately I had to leave right away so that I could go to work for
evening shift.
Had a fantastic time. BTW I have magnetic plates which i remove for
these kinds of events, a real issue for me.
