[MV] Another response to criticism of MVPA Board

Greetings All,
As many of you know, I'm not a member of the MVPA currently, and it's
been due partly to some poor impressions I received before Tobyhanna last
year, and partly from commentary about the board's practices of late.
Well, a few weeks back, I had the opportunity to spend the day with Lee
Holland. All day. I left that evening with a very different impression
than the one I had walked in with. I found him to be polite, well spoken,
educated, quite a good background, a team player and hard worker, and willing
to talk quite candidly about various topics even AFTER finding out I was a
member of the MV List!!
Guess he didn't see the noose or tar bucket and figured he could throw me
into the ocean if he had to......(that was a joke guys, OK?)
I won't go into the details of it, but found him quite approachable on all
issues, including the "sticky" ones. He was willing to discuss both sides and
provide background I had been unfamiliar with. The only areas we touched
lightly were the ones the MVPA counsel had recommended him to steer clear of.
I strongly encouraged him to respond to the List, or make a commentary to
post here, but he was unwilling to do so, not because we were beneath him,
quite the contrary, that he felt it would be unprofessional to respond to
mudslinging in self defense if all it would do is promote more mudslinging
and arguing (my words). While I disagreed with him in this area, I still
enjoyed the day with him, and hopefully made a new friend in the hobby. He
certainly did. Another conversation or two with him and I may end up
joining. He was not what I expected.
For those of you who are already members, I think voting is still the option
to use to make changes where you the members see fit. Based on my day with
the Colonel, I think the MVPA may have a good and balanced leader at the helm
already.
And lastly, I was amazed to find that MVPA nat'l headquarters is not located
in the DC metro area. THIS is where stuff happens, and where lobbying or
what have you needs to take place. Our hobby is becoming more threatening
to the uneducated Americans coming into power of late. And so it will
continue to be more and more threatened, directly or indirectly. I used to
pass by the NRA national headquarters every day on my way in to the State
Department. Iowa or Colorado or wherever it is is a long way from here, in
more ways than one.
