All, Jeep-o-motives were used primarily by the Aussies at home and in
the western Pacific. Also used by the US in the Philippines. They used
Deuce n half rims with the centers reversed and an adapter for the lug
pattern. (Go to the Australian War Memorial Data Base (32,000 photos+)
and look for Jeep RR) The jeep-o-motives were used to move troops and
freight to the forward areas sometimes pulling two or three small
coaches and a couple of trailers. I found 25+ pixs of the RR in action.
(Neg # 015477, 015478, OG3138, OG3141, 113590 - just a few) There is a
pix of a jeep with two box cars and the caption read's "the
jeep-o-motive could move the equivalent of ten truck loads of freight
at a time" (My cousin, who used to work for the RR here and owns several
RR cars and cabooses, comment was "so they could get them rolling but
how did they stop them?") Also one of our members at buss@lanset.com,
Randy Canova and Mike Pielar have pixs of their jeeps at the Southern
Cal RR Museum and also have instructions on how to make the wheels.
On the trailers the Aussies have several of their own versions of the
jeep trailers. (Pixs also avail at the Memorial site) There are both
round and square fenders and a long and low sided trailer too.
The Memorial site also has pixs of a lot of other equipment. You can
order copies of their photos thru the site. Later, DirtMan of Puget Snd
