David, As to the engine noise... how much blow-by does the engine have
?? It should have none to almost none. If you have used ether on the
engine even in small amounts you could have done very serious engine
damage as in breaking the compression rings. The ldt and lds engines
have solid lifters and valves should be set at .025 on a warm engine.
The noise could be from oil consumpsion on some cylinders on leaking
injectors. To check this speed the engine up till you hear the noise and
then loosen the injector line so that it leaks rather than injects. If
the noise goes away, replace the injector.
As to the idle problem, don't trust any injection shop to have corrected
all the problems correctly. Have you checked all the pressures to be
sure they are right ?? THIS IS SOMETHING ALL MULTIFUEL TURBO OWNERS
SHOULD CHECK !! Put a 0 - 100 psi gauge on the final filter air vent
and a 0 - 10 psi gauge on the intake manifold. This is the only way to
be sure things are set correctly and not blow up an engine by over
feuling it !!! Switch on, engine stopped, fuel pressure 5 - 7 psi.
Engine running at idle speed, 35 - 40 psi. Full throttle ( bring it up
to some water temp and slowly increase speed to see how fast it will go
on the govenor which should not be more than 2850 rpm and in my opinion
2400 should be the upper limit unless you have some spare engines )
anyway, full throttle 65 - 70 psi.
Now drive it and see that the boost pressure is not more than 9 psi at
full throttle full load and about 2400 rpm. Also the pressure should be
5 psi at 1500 rpm and again full throttle and full load. The idle speed
is controlled by the govenor, so i would guess that either the slow
speed pressures are low or that something in side the shut-off cover is
sticking. The throttle pulls on the govenor and that pulls on the
injection pump fuel metering control.
