joe, using ether is a very easy way to destroy the glow plugs on any
diesel that has them. after about 10 - 30 seconds of ether the glow
plugs will look like you took a torch and cut them off. this is what is
referred to as 'ether addiction' since now the engine won't start
without more ether.........also the voltage on some glow plugs is lower
than battery voltage to get them hot sooner, but they must be cycled on
and off and some of this electronics can fail or misfunction. if you
have glow plugs at the same voltage as the battery you can keep them on
even after it starts until it is fireing smoothly.
