I've got one of these as well. If it is in its original pressed paper box,
it should have some colored lenses too.

These were used to signal aircraft from the ground. Modern control towers
have equipment like this (although higher powered) to signal aircraft in
case of a radio communication failure.

I would doubt that these were used on an aircraft, since most liaison
(Stinson L-5) and larger types had 3 colored marker lights and a switch box
as part of their permanently installed equipment. Anything smaller (like a
J-3 Cub of that era) wouldn't have even had an electrical system.

Glad to know that there's yet another Dodge behind the Orange Curtain!

At a recent gun show, while nosing around for WWII accessories for my
Command
Car, I came across and purchased a 5" reflector signal lamp. It has a ring
and bead sight with trigger grip and trigger. It is marked 13 volts,
finished
in OD, (original finish I believe) and is manufactured by Grimes, Urbana,
Ohio. Model number is G-3160 and the label is marked "Aircraft Lighting".
Can anyone tell me more about this please.
