Something everyone is forgetting is that the jeep was a light weight
recon vehicle and the capstan type winch did not have to have more than
500 lbs pull to pull the jeep out of a jamb. as the jeep only weighed
around 2600 lbs with the gear in it . Not like the heavier weapons
carriers and half tracks. My sail boat has 9 modern capstan type
winches that can be used single handed and do the job fine. Also the
capstan type winch does not weigh very much as compared with the drumb
type winch with the cable are very heavy. The jeep was a LIGHT WEIGHT
recon vehicle and doesn't need all that cast iron hanging around on the
front end. Dewey, Puget Snd MVCC
