Claude and the list
I just got through repainting my second jeep and learned a quick and
inexpensive way to get about 80 % of the old paint off. Actually I learned
this trick from of my antique tractor days of repainting old tractors.
Buy about ten cans of oven cleaner from your discount dollar type store.
I paid about $1.25 per can and spray it on your area you want to remove the
paint and let it soak for about 20 to 3o minutes and then apply a high
pressure water from a power washer to the area and you will be amazed what
comes off. I usually concentrate on a section at a time as to not get
overwhelmed with the entire project. Be a bit mindful of the run off and
keep the pets away from your work area. I feel this is much safer than the
commercial paint stripers on the market and it sure is a lot cheaper.
Sand blasting is also an option, but with the transfer case, transmission,
axles and motor I feel you can't help but get some sand in the inside and
will be having for some internal problems down the road. That is just an
opinion of mine. Some my differ. Some of the stubborn areas. I carefully
and lightly use a 4-½ inch angle grinder and soft cup wire brush to remove
paint.
I used omni paint extender and mixed about 1/3 extender to 2/3 paint and got
great results. Also painted em outside my shop. If you paint inside be
sure to have good ventilation. IF not the fumes can be harmful and the
mist in the air will settle on your jeep and cause a very dull surface on
the flats areas of your hood fenders. I also visited with my local paint
and body shop and got some good pointers. See a M38A1 jeep I did on
olive drabs website, it is the 3 rd one down.

but just do a few in my spare time on our farm in East Texas. Hope
these tips help.
Good luck
Cliff
