Just some capsulated thoughts after reading thru the thread on this
subject...........
(the responses, have been excellent. Would make for a great magazine
article).
Theoretically, high technology has the edge:
Theory: All conceivable parts are readily available.
Reality: In a peace time parts are never readily available, it gets worse
in times of
war.
Theory: Technicians will be able to diagnose and replace components as
needed.
Reality: Technicians are not mechanics.
Theory: Factory sealed precision components eliminate the need to
improvise.
Reality: There will always be a need to improvise, but there may not always
be a
way to improvise.
Theory: All parts are designed to function under all possible conditions.
Reality: Murphy's law still applies.
Theory: Quality wins over quantity.
Reality: Quality wins over quantity, providing quantity is not
overwhelming, then
the situation is reversed.
Theory: High tech is vastly superior to low tech.
Reality: Human will and crude ingenuity more often determine the final
outcome.
