I've wondered about that, also maybe a valve sticking but I would think that
it would not idle smooth or run well in either case. The motor by the way
was a NOS mule motor with under 10 hours on it. I have oil pressure (put a
gage on the plug in the oil filter housing) and I took ot for a drive and
the noise did not go away. After sitting for a couple hours and then
restarting, there was no noise.
