Sounds exactly like the problem I had when I bought my HMMWV. If you shoot
some ether (starting fluid) into the intake it should start right up (may
smoke a little until it warms up).
I bought an NOS replacement Glow Plug Controller from Jeff Symanski
(LSyman@aol.com) of Tactical Truck for $35, and it started right up.
I've been very satisfied with everything I've bought from Jeff, and his
prices are very reasonable.

My Humvee will not start. I believe it is the glow plug controller but I
would like to solicit some input from people more experienced than I. Last
week I was driving my Humvee and I noticed the glow plugs were still cycling
even though the temp was up to operating temp. Eventually this stopped.
Later that day I was driving it again and I heard the glow plugs cycle
(click) about 5 times in 2 seconds. I didn't notice any problem and was
within a mile of home so just took it home and shut it down. I went to try
and start it the next day so I could do a little diagnosing, but the wait
light didn't come on for any length of time like it usually does, you could
see a brief flash of amber light in the indicator and then nothing, (much
like it acts normally when the engine is warm) I tried to crank it for
about 5-7 seconds but was just getting white smoke out the stack. I am a
bit paranoid after the thread on "mushroomed" glow plugs and having to pull
the heads. I assume this is the glow plug contoller. I have the -20 with
the test for it. I have yet to perform this but In my mind I think this is
what it is. What do you guys think? And if so prices on Controllers
please........
