The M distributors have two vent ports. One generally goes to the
air cleaner, while the other goes to the engine intake manifold, BUT
via a restrictor of some kind. Most are a 1/8" elbow with only a drilled
.010" or so
opening. Just enough for a flow of air from the cleaner, through the
distributor
to the intake manifold. This gets the ozone out, but keeps the distributor
water tight.
No restrictor or to big a drilled hole will create the oil soaking you are
having.
Is the distributor shaft bushing very worn. That would contribute to excess
oil being
sucked up through.
My $0.005 worth.
