Iıve been reading the comments about how to convert the voltage or tap one
of the 12 volt batteries in a 24 volt s system. Well I have the same
problem but the other way around Iım running the original 6 volt system on
my 1942 CMP 3 ton. To run things like CB, radio, tape deck, lights in the
radio box and strobe light for convoys I have been using a 12 volt gel cell
battery. I donıt have a problem with it running low on power even when
radios are run for several days with out recharging.
The extra battery has an advantage to starting the truck when the 6 volt
battery is dead. I donıt jump the starter or the instrument circuit but
with a clip lead I can give the coil 12 volts with the ignition switch off.
The truck starts very nicely on hand crank when the plugs fire on 12 volts.
I have also done this trick with just a little 9 volt radio battery. This
trick also works nicely when starting the truck at extreme cold temperature.
