With all the comments and from observation I think I am going to have to do
a teardown. There is about 15 - 20 degrees of non-scientific backlash
measured by rotating the front driveshaft back and forth feeling for
pinion/ring contact.
I'd like to meet the @#?!XX$%% mechanic that put this axle together...oops
that was me. Never mind.
