Hi List,
I read Chris's posting on the WC53 carryall for sale and visited his very
nice website. While reading his "why I'm selling it" I noticed that he came
into another, nicer WC53 just after buying the first one. The same thing
happened to me with the Scout Cars! Odd how this happens...... but now I
feel better about it. Misery loves company. Actually I cannot complain
since the Greek Scout has been a donor of many required parts.
Jim Rice was kind enough to give me a call yesterday and invite me to go
spelunking with him at one of my favorite local militaria haunts. He picked
me up in front of the children's hospital and took me away from there for a
little while so that I could keep myself sane. Amy remained with the little
one (who is improving, by the way) and allowed me this time away.
We hiked around and around (I got us lost in the maze at least once) and
after a few false starts, found the old search light transport trailer. We
walked around it several times (as much as the saplings would allow, anyway)
and determined that the trailer was pretty ratted out, even for a fellow
like me whose patron saint is St. Jude......(the patron saint of lost
causes.) I (probably) could have had the whole thing for $50 but the darned
thing is 5100# EMPTY and woudn't even fit on my big flatbed due to its
immense size. Contemplating the cost of paying to transport this monstrous
derilict white elephant by roll-back wrecker simply tipped the scales into
the "don't-buy-it zone" so it will sit and continue to rot. Be that as it
may, I laid claim to the dandy hand winch on the tongue which will require a
torching of the bolts for it's removal and I scrounged the right rear
tail-light off of it for use on the Scout since it is the correct type. My
other buddy wants the wheels for extras since they will fit on his WC. If
any of you out there need parts for your search light trailer, contact me
and I will look into it for you for it will soon be resting directly on the
ground which will undoubtedly contribute mightily to its ultimate demise.
Regards,
TJ
