On a CCKW at least, you cannot disconnect either rear axle. You will get
stuck!

Been there Done that, Had to put the driveshaft back in...

I found 'neutering' the front end improved the mileage slightly, greatly cut
down on noise at high speeds AND keeps the wear down on the front end.
