I attended an Ordnance Museum Foundation meeting Sat and part of the meeting included a tour of the Restoration Facility. These tours will also be conducted at the 28th Annual Rally at APG 10-12 May 2001. I have to say it was impressive. The only $ they have available is for "abatement" which means vehicles are stripped via 45,000 psi water, treated for rust and repainted. Fuel tanks are also drained. There is some cosmetic repairs to the exterior such as fenders, stowage boxes, etc. The crew is doing a fantastic job, with very limited resources. They are averageing 2 vehicles/arty pieces per month. At least it gets them inside so no more damage occurs. The Museum staff has a few pokers in the fire to raise the $10M to get a bare bones 300,000 sqft building addition to the present museum. With that, all vehicles will return to indoor storage which was lost back in 1963 when they lost the original musem wharehouse. Anyway, the Rally will play a vital if small rol!
e in keeping the seed money goin
g. The Volvo Ambulance that will be raffled off at the rally is in excellent running shape too! They will only sell 4,000 max at $5 each.
