Hello List,
Well green fever has struck again... I'm probably going to getting a 1943
M29 (T24) Weasel SN 2003.... I would be interested in talking with any
Weasel enthusiasts out there, and finding out about the specialized tools
(track and otherwise) and their availability or improvised tools people have
used. For now this Weasel's tracks look pretty good, the conveyor belt
reinforcement track fix has been applied and appears to be pretty secure.
The vehicle is very original even comes with the seatbelts and has been
spared the (fire/rescue) mods typically seen .... There is a little rust in
one of the rear floor panels but that should be easy to patch... 2 other
issues are present... first, the fuel tank liner is very gooey and not being
used.. it is running off a 5 gallon fuel can instead, Are there any original
replacement fuel tanks out there? Or can this one be salvaged? Secondly
the vehicle is slow to respond in turning/braking... it seems to do nothing
for a couple of seconds and then turns very sharply... almost as if the
brake bands had oil or water on them and then its burned off by the
friction... I believe Russ Morgan (are you out there Russ?) Suggested the
diff oil may be running GO 90wt instead of the correct OE 30wt.... I'm just
curious why this would have this effect? Any one else ever had this issue?
I have the TM 9-722 and read about the brake band adjustment but the fact
that they work well after a delay has me wondering if that is really the
case....... I plan on towing the vehicle on a civillian trailer behind my
HMMWV I will have to modify the trailer to a Lunette eye and to a 24V
conversion to the trailer or step down the voltage to 12V... On my Ferret
trailer I just rewired and used 24V Jeep Lights... I'm really looking
forward to getting this vehicle and would love to hear from some of the
other Weasel owners on this list..... Also does anybody know anything about
this particular Weasel? I believe it came from someone at aberdeen about a
year and a half ago..... I think Russ was talking to him about some antenna
sections? I think the owner who was at aberdeen was named Gary or something
like that? Not sure, but any help in tracking down the history of the
vehicle would be greatly appreciated....
Thanks,
Tony
