Now this story sounded a bit like a "fairy tale"....... like the $50.00
jeep-in-a-crate ones. The "special" number on the "data plate" in the
photos had a familiar ring to it............

................ The serial number that AM General applied starts with a
'C"--as
in their "CJ" vehicles.. "Civilian Jeep"..in the case of the 151.."Civilian
151".. Like I said..there were only 2 of these made.. If anyone knows of any
others that they saw and can vouch for....especially the data plate..(no "I
heard abouts).., I'd sure like to know about it..!.........

The "C" in the serial number of this MUTT is does not stand for
"Civilian"......It's just the next letter that comes after "B". Like I
said......the number of the jeep (C151-08380) sounded familiar so I got out
some of the data plates I've took off some of the M-151-A2's I disassembled
several years ago.

In my collection are some data plates from contract
DAAE07-77-C-3404. The numbers on my plates are C151-08287, C151-08291 and
C151-08504. This would put the "fairy tale" jeep (C151-08380) right in
the middle of this contract! In fact, this was a Air Force contract for
these MUTTS. The jeep that this fellow says a soldier bought from AM
General was made for (and delivered to) the Air Force and had a Air Force
registration (hood) number of 78K457.

A good look at the "data plate" on this jeep shows it to be printed
and not stamped and the AM General logo is not on the plate. Actually,
this plate looks like it was made up at a trophy place and not a real
legal V.I.N. plate.

As for the "C" in the number, it is just a continuation of the
earlier AM General serial numbers. Plates in my collection from the earlier
contract DAAE07-76-D-0002 have serial numbers of B151-60149 and B151-60188
(registration numbers NBOGMC and NBOGNH).

The seller's story did seem a little too good to be true............

   As always..........buyer beware!
