Maybe the list can help - especially those of us who might be aircraft
modellers as well.
We're doing a film in Canada that requires us to duplicate a few scenes shot
in Morocco. Now, the Moroccan Air Force lent the production one CASA
(Spanish built) CN-235 which was painted their peculiar type of camouflage -
namely, a sort of tan and a darker greeny-brown in broad 'stripes' across
the length of the fuselage and wings.
So, now they want me to figure out what the actual colours are so they can
repaint an aircraft closer to home to match the original Moroccan one. I
thought of contacting CASA (and have), and also thought maybe someone who's
built anything Moroccan military vehicle-ish might have a handle on what
sort of model paint (Testor's, for example) is used for the Moroccan paint
scheme, then I can make my own 'paint chip' and trot it down to one of the
local paint stores.
Anyway, it's sorta military vehicle related, and I'm certainly open to any
imaginative solutions. I already have a colour snap of the aircraft, and if
I *have* to, I'll perform an educated guess based on that, but photo
matching is notoriously haphazard, and I don't want 45 gallons of paint to
be the 'wrong colour' as per some fussing art-department.
Also, on a related note, they're doing Beirut c. 1985, and for some reason
or other, they have solid green mil-veh's with some peculiar numbering
system on the hood (think 151) as per the old pre-1970-ish U.S. numbering
system (you know, like "US ARMY 2D - 1753"). Their numbers are evidently
black less the Arm designation, and read something like "6K 80 23", which
I've never come across anywhere before. I'm guessing these vehicles are
playing USMC, but the numbering/position system is inscrutable. Any help
from those who might know the Marine Corps a little better than I?
First I thought they might be Airforce vehicles, but they'd typically have
to say: U.S. Airforce
85K 00000
For official use only
The odd spaces and numbers on these production vehicles makes no sense.
Besides, "6K"? What...they made 151's in 1906, did they? Wouldn't even see
that one in Supply Line on a bad day.
