Sorry to break into your suspension overdose here Richard but the
Christie system used springs inside a double hull wall whereas the CVR-T
family uses torsion bars.
The christie system died out with the Comet in british service. The last
russian vehicle to have the christie system was the T-34 and even then
some variants had torsion bar suspension.
The demise of the Christie system was undoubtedly due to the space it
took up in a vehicles hull and, of course, as the vehicles got heavier
so did the springs and the volume of space required got larger leaving
less space available inside the vehicle for little things like the crew,
ammunition etc.
