Damn! That's why I love you guys so much! Australia was always the dreamed of
port of call for us swabbie types back in the '70s!
More on topic,
Just had three days driving a Mk1 Universal carrier in steep terrain, with
dirt roads covered with sheet ice, (slush int he afternoon) and usually
loaded with 5 other stout lads in WWII combat kit, and a pile of tools, Compo
boxes, and petrol cans.
Let's just say it was a hell of a learning experiance!
Tracks and ice DON"T GO TOGETHER!!
Thankfully, when we all went sliding off the road, it wasn't on a steep
portion of hillside.
Hmmmmmmm.. have to make a point in instructing passengers to bail out on the
"high side" if that happens again.
Also, dirt roads with very pronounced "crowns" are a pain to stay centred on,
even with the carrier's steering wheel.
If there are any other carrier drivers out there, would be happy to play
sponge and soak up any tech or driving tips you have to share!
Cheers
Jim
